Personal Blót to Tyr

Ritual Items:

  • Drinking horn or glass
  • Mead, beer, cider, or another beverage
  • Blessing bowl
  • Candle

Private Blót

In order to make an offering to Tyr for yourself or a loved one, first pour yourself a horn (or glass) of mead or other beverage and say:

“Tyr, god of oaths and laws, hail!
God of justice, hail!
God of the Thing, hail!
The One-handed God, hail!
He who sacrificed for the greater good, hail!
Hail, Tyr!”

Drink some of the mead or beverage and pour some out into the bowl for Tyr to request justice, fair treatment, or the upholding of oaths and law that you need through this offering. Light the candle and say:

“Tyr, you are the god of justice, law, and oaths,
You who sacrificed your hand for the greater good
You who stands for the just and the righteous
I ask you to grant me justice for what is right
Justice for what is good
Justice that is needed
And victory as is deserved
I ask for oaths and agreements to be upheld
And if not, then may what is due come.
With your blessing, may what is right and best
Come to pass.
Hail, Tyr!”

Order or cook yourself a special meal. Give some of your food and drink to Tyr with the thought of giving to him a gift for a gift. Throughout the meal, think of how heathens of old would invoke Tyr when swearing an oath, before a dispute, or needing justice of some sort.

Mentally reach back to those ancestors—whether of your flesh and blood or those who have also done as you are doing by making an offering. Imagine yourself as a chieftain or someone unfairly wronged would say a prayer to Tyr to make sure that Tyr may guide their decisions to be fair and unbiased if a chieftain or that justice would be served if someone wronged while you imagine sharing this meal with him, your drink with him, and each other’s presence. Pour some more mead or other beverage in a final simple thank you to Tyr and say:

“Spirits of the mountains, spirits of plants of field, trees of the forest, spirits of mountain, sky, ancestors of old and to the god Tyr: Accept this offering, my gift unto you.”
